Microsoft makes sure to place CD keys or, product keys in locations which are easy to see. Most times the CD key can be found on the DVD or CD cover. However, there are times when product keys are lost or misplaced and there is usually a fee to get a new product key from Microsoft. Another option is to recover the product key from the Windows XP Professional disk itself.

Things You'll Need:
Windows XP Professional installation CD or DVD

Place the Windows XP Professional software disk into the CD or DVD drive.
2.
Click on the start button or, "Windows" button, at the bottom left corner of your desktop.
3.
Locate the "Search" field and type: i386. You can also explore the disk to locate the i386 folder yourself.
4.
Find the file labeled UNATTEND.txt and open it. Scroll to the very bottom of the text inside this file and there you will find the product key. It will be 25 characters in length and will consist of numbers and letters.
