If you plan to edit the registry on your computer or if you need to test the registry entries for something you programmed, it is important to be able to copy the registry entries. You access the Registry Editor through the "regedit" command. You can copy entries to your hard drive, which allows you to restore the entries at any point in the future. If you ever edit your registry, it is good practice to copy your previous entries in case of registry failure.
Instructions
1.
Click "Start." Type "regedit" and press "Enter."

Click the arrows to the right of each branch of the registry to browse through the registry.

Click to highlight the entry you wish to copy.
4.
Right-click the entry and click "Export."
5.
Select a location and enter a name for your copied entry. Click "Save."
